You don't lose to a black box.

Most games let an opponent beat you without ever saying why. LATTICEMIND does the opposite: after every move it tells you in one sentence what weighed heaviest — and you can press Why? to see the actual split between the seven terms in its arithmetic.

"You had four in a row. I had to close it — everything else lost."
"You didn't threaten enough to make me answer. So I kept building."
"Now I have two threats at once. You can only close one."

The point isn't that the opponent is strong. The point is that it's readable.

How the explanation actually works — the honest version

The opponent does not reason, and I'm not going to claim it does. It scores every legal move as a weighted sum of seven terms — win, block, build, fork, block-fork, centre and space — and picks the highest. The sentence you read is chosen by which term actually weighed most in that sum. It's a measurement of the choice, not a story told afterwards.

That's exactly why it works: learn to read the weights, and you can beat it.
